Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Mon, January 9, 2006 - 5:10 PMSee P'Lito, I thought it was "AEIOU Sometimes Y", not "AEIOU" That was the make or break for me to beat them! -

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 7:09 AMI had a really good time that night.
There was some good stuff played.
Alot of stuff I haven't heard in a while.

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 7:55 AMTony, at least it was closer than what you originally wrote which was "ABCDEFG".

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 8:08 AMSkip & Candy,
One-hit Wonders night was a blast. There were lot's of rare gems played that night. The DJs chose well. Hat's off to all of them. My only regret was leaving before Candy went on. How 'bout an earlier spot for her next time?
Candy, I'm old enought to remember when all those disco tunes came out. I was working at Fisherman's Wharf in some tacky gift shop when Ring My Bell came first out.
BTW: Lou Rawls wasn't disco or a one-hit-wonder, but he is indeed dead. -

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 8:13 AMCandy had the floor dancing their asses off!
I would say she rocked but it's more like she
discoed. I am sure that is not even a real word
or if it is it is so spelled wrong. You missed out
P'Lito by leaving early. -

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 9:57 AMThanks for the kind words P'lito and John.
Just for the record...
I do indeed know that Lou Rawls is not a one hit wonder nor a disco artist, but I wanted to acknowledge his passing and pay tribute to his legacy. Rest in Peace, Lou Rawls!

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 11:23 AMit was a great way to end the night... and, you know, he didn't sound out of place at all. He transcends genres. -
-
Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 7:29 AMWell then I guess we're all lucky that one of the members of the Starland Vocal Band didn't die that week. -

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 7:56 AMWhy is that P'Lito? A little Afternoon Delight in the evening is not your cup of tea? I bet you know every word to that song. -
-
Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 1:58 PMQuite possibly the worst lyrics ever written-
"Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
looking forward to a little afternoon delight.
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
and the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting."
"Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always though a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might
try nibbling a little afternoon delight." -

Wed, January 11, 2006 - 2:14 PMSkip say it isn't so! No you don't know the words!
No, I won't believe it! You must be under a demonic
spell that is using your brain, right? ;)
Warning to Candy - it's not really Skip. Someone has taken
over his body. ;)

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 2:54 PMI listened to an entire decade of music like "Afternoon Delight" on AM radio as a kid. It was unavoidable. It's crap like that that made New Wave music such a life changing phenomenon. -

Wed, January 11, 2006 - 3:23 PMShhhhh, between you and I, I also listened to that stuff way back when. I just had to give you a hard time. ;)

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 8:15 AMI couldn't agree more with Skip. Growing up in the Bay Area, we only had KFRC's Dr. Donald D. Rose top 40 to listed to. New Wave was life changing. My epiphany moment came to me during my first visit to the legendary SF nightclub Earl's.
I went home and realized my rock record collection was now obsolete.
God, I miss Boston and Kansas and that dude who sang Year of the Cat. -

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 8:25 AMThat was Al Stewart. (Year of The Cat)
Actually the band Worry Dolls that I was in, the guitar player was his sister in law. I met him and he is really nice. or he was anyways.

Afternoon delight.
A-a-afternoon delight.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-afternoon delight.

-
Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 8:43 AMAh....Al Stewart. Now there's a one-hit-wonder. -
-
Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 10:31 AMOk, hey.... KFRC was the station to listen too.... I too used to listen to Dr. D... I got a little panda radio (AM), it's eyes were the dials, one was tuning the other volume. (So simple.) I used to listen to KFRC all the time on that guy... He had a little strap on the top of his head that went around your wrist so you could carry him whereever you went. -

Re: One Hit Wonders Night- Who played what
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 11:36 AMAl Stewart had more than just one hit.
Not that I am defending al Stewart or anything.
What about the song Time Passages? That was a
pretty big hit for him as well.
I am just saying. ;) -
