Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 3:37 PMThere's much more to DJ'ing than just playing songs- as evidenced by the set from DJ Andy T.
Just reading this set, it doesn't read half as great as it sounded at the club. This set gets my vote as
best set so far at DECADE- and we've had some great sets! -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 4:25 PMyeah but the Ramones???? I don't exactly get an image of them in my mind when I think LOVE BOAT!!! hahaha -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 4:58 PMnot just ANY Ramones... 'Rockaway Beach', which fits in brilliantly with the Summer vibe.
But, yeah... I don't think we'll ever see Gopher and Issac kickin' it to the Ramones.
"This week, on a very special Love Boat... Joey finds love, Johnny jams with Charo, Tommy passes out by the pool, and Doc makes a grave diagnosis for Dee-Dee." -

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 5:20 PMHAHAHAHAHA!! and Julie the Cruise director would be their COKE supplier!!!

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 6:13 PMSkip, I loved the Rockabilly set (yay!), and was so sorry I had to leave before it was over (boo!)
The Frogman song was in "The Lost Boys," but I don't know what else... -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 9:34 PMYeah, I played Red Hot just for you. I wondered why you didn't dance- guess you were gone already.
Thanks for coming though. Always nice to see your pretty face, even if it is for a short time!

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 8:56 PMOH MY GOD!!!
(chokes up)
I... I want to thank my parents, and everyone who believed in me, and all the wonderful people at Betty Ford...
(wipes eyes)
But seriously! thanks for the props! Hot Summer Night was by "Night" although Shindog almost had me convinced it was Walter Egan. That guy should run for office. -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Mon, June 5, 2006 - 9:31 PMShindog and I were at the bar talking about whether Walter Egan had done the original, or if this version by Night was.
Walter Egan did indeed write and release the single in 1978, when it peaked at #55 on the Billboard
US Hot 100 Singles list.
Shindog also recalled that Egan began his musical career with The Malibooz, a band dedicated to Surf music, which he still performs with to this day. -

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 7:35 AMI also have to agree with Skip.
Andy your set was the best yet.
It brought back a lot of memories.
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 7:48 AMNEVER argue with Shindog about surf music. He's 100% correct about Walter Egan and The Malibooz. I almost played their song 'Surfing Ghost' but it was recorded in the 70's.
I had a blast but I tell ya, it was a lot of work. Best of luck to all the guest MCs next month. My only suggestion is to pick your very favorite songs and enjoy your hour in the booth. -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 7:56 AMOh 'n Andy...'Fox on the Run' by Sweet! Now THAT brought back memories!! Hadn't heard it in years. Thanks for playing it.
Thanks also to Skip and Candy for letting me entertain the ho-dads and gremmies. -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 12:57 PM"The Frogman song was in "The Lost Boys," but I don't know what else..."
That's correct, Amy.
Anyone know the other movie? (read the Rockabilly set list above for the trivia question) -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 1:29 PMSure. It's from the movie, "Ain't got No Home". I forget who was in it.
What do I win, Skip? -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what

Tue, June 6, 2006 - 6:06 PMokay who screwed up and didn't play BEATNIK BEACH by the GO-GO'S??? I just heard it a few minutes ago on my Internet station...it's one of my favorites!!!! -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 7:35 PMnobody screwed up... 'Vacation' was played instead, which is totally valid. -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 7:40 PMWait. Were you even there, Deeners?!! Why would we play your requests?!?
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 6, 2006 - 10:47 PMtotally valid yes but good to mix it up once in a while! I can just watch commercials on TV and hear "Vacation"! *ugh*
and no I wasn't there but you're supposed to "feel" my requests coming through! haha -

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Wed, June 7, 2006 - 9:47 AMActually, Dina, I was going to play Beatnik Beach by the Go-Go's, but I wasn't sure everyone would know and appreciate it. Since I had a prime hour, I wanted to play really danceable and familiar stuff. Good to know that if you were there you would have been excited to hear it. -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Tue, June 13, 2006 - 3:40 PMI understand but I am quite sure you woulda had people shimmying to it!

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 7:58 AMSorry 'bout Wipe Out. I was aiming for the more obscure surf tunes that nobody's heard before. -

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 8:08 AMI heard it once at a party somewhere at a friends house in the back yard by the pool on a hot summer day with a direction of nonsense for which it stands if you are still reading this you need to hear wipe out again because you think you have heard it so many times you are now looking for obscure surf tunes when wipe out is obscure when was the last time a surf record was made making all surf music obscure and guess what you probably own the record. Hows that for robotic rambling i am suprised you read it all I stopped after the first two words I just ignore posts like this entirely but you seem to have the time so I will keep writing. see everyone next time. -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 2:02 PMStill no answer as to the second movie. Amy got the first one with "The Lost Boys". Corey Haim sings along to this song while taking a bubble bath and being stalked by his brother.
Ain’t Got No Home - Clarence "Frogman" Henry *
* This odd little song figured prominently in two different 1980’s movies.
In both movies, the character sang along with the song. Can you name the two movies?
Guess you guys need a hint. The character has an argument with his wife about her playing his records. He gets mad and goes for a drive in his car and this song plays on the radio while he sings along.

Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 2:05 PMis it 'Diner'? -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 2:30 PMWhat is, "Does Anybody Really Care Anymore?" Starring Bill Murray and Jim Belushi. 1987. MGM Studios.
Oops...I meant to say...I give up Skip. You stumped us. What's the name of the movie? -
-
Re: Summer Music Dance Party - who played what
Thu, June 15, 2006 - 3:47 PMDing! Ding! Ding! We have a winner- and as usual, it's not P'lito. Good guess, Tomas!
It is "Diner". Shrevie (Daniel Stern) has a fight with his wife Beth (Ellen Barkin), because she always puts his records away incorrectly. I figured someone like myself, who has a lot of records, would remember and identify with that scene. (Read the "tag" from Tomas.)
Great movie with an excellent cast, if you've never seen it- Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Steve Guttenberg, Paul Reiser, Timothy Daly.
Memorable Quotes from Diner (1982)
Shrevie: Ok, now ask me what's on the flip side.
Beth: Why?
Shrevie: Just, just ask me what's on the flip side, OK?
Beth: What is on the flip side?
Shrevie: Hey, Hey, Hey, 1958. Specialty Records.
[Beth nods blankly]
Shrevie: See? You don't ask me things like that, do you? No! You never ask me what's on the flip side.
Beth: No! Because I don't give a shit, Shrevie. Who cares about what's on the flip side about the record?
Shrevie: I do! Every one of my records means something! The label, the producer, the year it was made. Who was copying whose style... who's expanding on that, don't you understand? When I listen to my records they take me back to certain points in my life, OK? Just don't touch my records, ever!
You! The first time I met you? Modell's sister's high school graduation party, right? 1955.
And Ain't That A Shame was playing when I walked into the door!
